Christmas in May
It seems that ChaosFarm is still not enjoying the warmer temperatures that generally arrive in May. It is a shock to wake up in the morning and be greeted by snow on the rooftops. The polar vortex did not hit here in midwinter, but it is here now. It looks like abnormally cold weather is going to remain for at least another week. This weather is excellent fodder for stoking the lunacy of those who believe that there is no such thing as global warming.
The tranquility at ChaosFarm has been interrupted by an OberlinChaos reader, MC. He has sent us a link to a misleading interview with the College President. This interview is one more piece of evidence that President Ambar sees all the world as a courtroom containing an ignorant jury that can be easily swayed by her persuasive arguments of the moment. Things don’t always work that way.
CNN interview of Ambar
Hi JD:
I came across this interview with CNN’s Michael Smerconish. Interesting how Ambar belabors such terms as “community” and “collective” — as would any good socialist/progressive. For good measure, she also throws in a couple of politically correct terms (equity, diversity) — but clearly, her worldview has to do with the collective/the community (in other words, she places society above the individual).
I also note that she claims Oberlin awards $63 million/year in financial aid. If it were true, it would constitute a huge drain on an $800 million endowment.
But of course, it’s not true. The $63 million isn’t real money that the college is awarding; rather, it consists of tuition discounts, or federal loans, or both.
Anyway, hope you’re doing well.
All the best.

Doing good things
President Ambar has made a big deal out of her desire to improve relations with the town of Oberlin. She has made it clear in other contexts that when she refers to the “Oberlin Community,” she means the college minus the town. She preaches inclusion while practicing exclusion.

The purpose of this blog is to tell the other side of the other side of the , OSCA, the Kosher-Halal Co-op, faculty independence, and UAW stories to Oberlin Alumni lest they believe the College’s heavily redacted and whitewashed version of events. Please tell your fellow Obies how the Trustee-Politburo has damaged the Gibsons, the College’s reputation, the worth of our degrees, the college’s union workers, K-H, faculty independence, and the OSCA Co-op tradition. No sleazy PR can divert attention from the BOT’s negligence in these matters. Speak up and insist that the BOT arrest its compulsive, neo-Puritan righteousness, which has already eradicated THOUSANDS of $36,000 scholarships, a cooperating union, K-H, the OSCA Student Co-op, and hobbled a world class faculty — just to wreck a tiny bakery!
