ChaosFarm
ChaosFarm is the home of JD Nobody, where quiet contemplation can occur. This contemplation considers what has gone wrong at Oberlin College. The broader context of the interconnected forces in an increasingly complex world leads to topics not related to Oberlin College.
OberlinChaos Content Notes
OberlinChaos.com is supported by its contributors rather than by advertising. This makes the presentation faster, more reliable, and more independent.
Some of the OberlinChaos sliders symbolize the shameless opacity of the BOT by exhibiting similar opacity when the slides move. The minuscule transparency in these slides allows just a hint of the background to show, but not enough for viewers to make any sense of what they are looking at.

Individual posts are periodically updated to correct minor spelling or punctuation errors, refine content, or add/remove post content. Content is occasionally duplicated between posts for easier reading.
Many posts contain dated material that could not anticipate all future developments. Most notably, some material did not anticipate the seriousness of the psychological problems that President Trump displayed on Jan. 6, 2021.

OberlinChaos Technical Notes
OberlinChaos.com is a WordPress website built and maintained using Windows 10, Linux, and Android operating systems. The development hardware used is a Raspberry Pi and traditional desktop and laptop systems. The website is hosted on an environmentally-friendly server.
WP has design flaws that often cause an author to spend more time on website engineering than content generation and presentation. WP’s extensive use of absolute links where good design calls for relative links makes some maintenance operations exceedingly messy. Moreover, using absolute links where relative links are called for often introduces insidious cross-linking bugs that cleverly conceal errors and make things appear to work when they do not.
WP has over 60,000 addon components (plugins) that give WordPress powerful flexibility despite the core software being a design abortion of the first magnitude. JD says this because, in addition to absolute addressing issues, WordPress’s development environment is seriously lacking in good variable typing and scoping — a deficiency that allows WP to run a bit faster, but at the expense of opening doors for contributing programmers to unintentionally mess each other up. Good variable typing and scoping can catch many programming errors at compile time.
If JD were teaching an Applied Computer Science 101 course and a student in his class produced design flaws like those described above, he would take home an “F.”
The purpose of this blog is to tell the other side of the other side of the , OSCA, the Kosher-Halal Co-op, faculty independence, and UAW stories to Oberlin Alumni lest they believe the College’s heavily redacted and whitewashed version of events. Please tell your fellow Obies how the Trustee-Politburo has damaged the Gibsons, the College’s reputation, the worth of our degrees, the college’s union workers, K-H, faculty independence, and the OSCA Co-op tradition. No sleazy PR can divert attention from the BOT’s negligence in these matters. Speak up and insist that the BOT arrest its compulsive, neo-Puritan righteousness, which has already eradicated THOUSANDS of $36,000 scholarships, a cooperating union, K-H, the OSCA Student Co-op, and hobbled a world class faculty — just to wreck a tiny bakery!
